I want to use Migration Assistant to transfer my data from a Macbook Pro to a Macbook Air. I'm told that I need my product key for MS Office 2011.

Is there a way to find my product key on my mac?

This is an old thread, but I ran into this issue and the way to fix it is as follows:

You have to be able to access the hard drive you migrated from.
Make sure all Office programs are closed.

On the new hard drive/computer you migrated to, delete the following file:
Fixed notification of finished Smart Scan, now it correctly shows the results instead of starting the scan again. Avast premier 17.4.2294 serial key. Updated GUI engine.
Go to the HD you had a working copy on, and copy that same file from the same location to the new HD.
It should have an older date from when you installed it and activated it.

Depending on where you bought Office 2011, you can retrieve the product key from Microsoft using the instructions on their website.

If this doesn't work for you (ie. you probably don't own a legitimate copy of the program) I'm afraid you're out of luck, I believe the licensing information may be stored in the com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist file which is located in ~/library/preferences but it's encrypted so.. good luck with that.

G/L trying to get a replacement from MS based on the Product ID. I just tried & they want to charge $40 for a replacement key (the product is still only good for 1 license)

In case anyone needs to do this in Office v15, the file has changed to /Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensingV2.plist

I had to restore my iMac from a Time Machine backup.

Everything seemed fine until I tried to start Office 2011 and it is asking me to re-enter my product key. I am trying to locate my key (I believe I downloaded this version originally and it should be in my email but I can't find it)

I tried a program that is supposed to 'find the keys for products installed on your computer' (Mac Product Key Finder) and it found my very old Office 2008 key, but not 2011.

I am surprised that if I had a totally working install before recovering from back-up that this wasn't restored as well - do I have any options to find it hiding somewhere on my drive?

Note: The recovery was after a hard drive was replaced by the Apple store - if that makes a difference, so this is a new internal drive. Avast activation key.

Office 2011 requires activation and is tied to your hardware so it might very well be that you need to reactivate Office 2011 after the HD change. The whole activation procedure is described in Office for Mac 2011 Activation and Product key Information (via archive.org). According to this document, the product key was mailed to you in a mail with subject 'Microsoft Office for Mac – Order Confirmation'.

Microsoft has replaced the support article linked above with a new one describing how to Activate Office for Mac 2011. As mentioned on the top of that page

Support for Office for Mac 2011 ended on October 10, 2017. All of your Office for Mac 2011 apps will continue to function. However, you could expose yourself to serious and potentially harmful security risks. Upgrade to a newer version of Office so you can stay up to date with all the latest features, patches, and security updates.

Windows 10 education serial key 64 bit. This thread is a bit old, but in case someone else finds themselves looking for the answer, this just worked for me:

To move / re-install your licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac on a different computer / OSX installation, and re-authorize it without the license / serial / key available, copy the following from the old machine to the corresponding (same) spot on the new computer.

Please note that you should be looking for these folders in the root directory of the drive on which OSX is installed-- NOT in your user directory. To get there, in the Finder click Go-->Computer-->[name of the hard drive that has OSX installed..usually 'Macintosh HD']..then look for the following folders:

/Applications/Microsoft Office 2011 folder (copy the entire folder, with all its contents)
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper
/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist
